Buck Showalter impressed by 'as advertised' top prospect Ronny Mauricio

The 2022 Mets are certainly a team ready to win the World Series right now – but it’s still fun to take a look into the future.

The Mets are stacked with some of the games top prospects, like Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, and Mark Vientos.

But one in particular has caught Buck Showalter‘s eye: Ronny Mauricio.

Mauricio spent most of his time last season with High-A Brooklyn, where he slashed .242/.291/.449, hitting 19 homers and driving in 63 runs in 100 games. He was called up to Double-A Binghamton for an eight-game stretch where he hit .323 with an .815 OPS.

The 21-year-old is ranked No. 40 on Keith Law’s prospects list (the Mets’ second-best prospect behind Alvarez, who is No. 8 overall),

“As advertised. Good looking prospect. Obviously looks the part… he’s got skills,” the Mets manager said of his 6’4″ stud.

While the Mets have their shortstop for the next decade locked up in Lindor, Showalter said Mauricio will continue…
