DUNEDIN, FL – Minor League Baseball announced today the Player and Pitcher of the Month winners for May. The Dunedin Blue Jays won both of the awards, becoming the first team to do so in the Florida State League since separate awards have been presented. Dahian Santos follows Ricky Tiedemann who won Pitcher of the Month for April. Gabby Martinez is the first Player of the Month for Dunedin since Orelvis Martinez won in July of 2021. Dunedin Blue Jays have won three of the four Player of the Month awards in the Florida State League this season. All three players to win the award are 19 years old, three years younger than the average age in the Florida State League.
For the month, Dahian Santos struck out 43 batters in 21.2 innings of work. He held opponents to a .074 average with a 0.74 WHIP. The right-hander held a 0.83 ERA with two wins. Santos was a part of the 24-strikeout game against the Tampa Tarpons, where he punched out 10 of his own in 4.0 innings.
Gabby Martinez slashed .367/.404/.694 with a 1.098 OPS. He hit safely in 23 of the 24 games played in during the month. The outfield prospect also led the league in hits (36), runs (25), home runs (8), total bases (68), and RBI (28). The Venezuela native posted an 11-game RBI streak, including a multi-home run game against the St. Lucie Mets on May 26.
