LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps were shut out, 4-0, by the Captains. Lake County’s Alexfri Planez hit a 441-foot grand slam onto The Summit. Lucas Dunn reached base 3 times for Fort Wayne.
APPLE SPLIT: The TinCaps are looking to split their second series in a row after splitting @ Great Lakes from May 31-June 5. Fort Wayne has not gone consecutive weeks without a series loss since April 12-24 (vs. South Bend & @ Lansing).
ROBERT HASSELL: Was reinstated from the COVID list Saturday after being placed on it June 2. Ranks first in the MWL in batting average (.305) and 6thin stolen bases (15).
COREY ROSIER: Was reinstated from COVID list Friday after being placed on it June 1. Even with missed time, still ranks 2nd in the MWL in runs (38), 4thin walks (34), and 5th in stolen bases (18). He’s also 5th in BB/K (0.85) and 7th in BB% (17%).
BRANDON VALENZUELA: Since May 19, has been one of the most prolific batters for the TinCaps. He leads the team over that span in hits (17), AVG (.293), home runs (3), RBIs (12), total bases (29), and OPS (.869). His triple Friday was his first in 83 games, dating back to July 22, 2021 with Single-A Lake Elsinore.
KELVIN MELEAN: Over the last week, is batting .313. His 5 hits, .389 OBP, .500 SLG and, in turn, .889 OPS also lead the team in this span.
K KINGS: TinCaps pitchers lead the 12-team MWL in K/9 (11.24) and rank 2nd in total strikeouts (586), only 2 behind South Bend’s 588.
CONTACT: Offensively, the TinCaps have struck out the fewest times in the Midwest League (8.8 per game). Meanwhile, Fort Wayne ranks 4th in walks drawn (4.1 per game).
CAUGHT ‘EM: TinCaps catchers are 3rd in the MWL in caught stealing %. Fort Wayne’s backstops have thrown out 26 of 78 attempted base stealers (33%)… Individually, Brandon Valenzuela leads the league in caught stealings, 17 of 51, while Anthony Vilar has nabbed 7 of 19, and Adam Kerner has caught 2 as well.
