Albuquerque’s Seven-Game Win Streak Snapped in 9-5 Loss at Las Vegas

Isotopes Come up Short against Space Cowboys in 11 Innings, 5-4

Summerlin, NV – Despite a grand slam by Ryan Vilade in the seventh inning that brought the Isotopes within two, they were unable to extend their win streak to eight games. The Las Vegas Aviators plated a pair of runs in the eighth to seal a 9-5 victory over Albuquerque, who saw their streak end at seven, tied for the third-longest in club history.


Former National League Most Valuable Player Kris Bryant started his second Major League rehab assignment of the season with the Isotopes, and he finished 0-for-3 with two flyouts and a strikeout. Bryant played five innings in left field.

After Las Vegas plated a run in the third to take a 1-0 lead, former Aviator Carlos Pérez launched his 12th home run of the season in the fourth, tying the contest at a run apiece.

The hosts broke the game open in the fifth, plating five runs off the duo of Ashton Goudeau and Heath Holder. Austin Allen’s solo homer started the rally and Kevin Smith’s two-run single capped it. Las Vegas made it 7-1 in the sixth when Skye Bolt led off with a home run.

Albuquerque made their move to get back in it in the seventh. Dom Nuñez led off with a single before advancing to third on a one-out double from Scott Schebler. With two outs, Kyle Holder drew a walk then Vilade launched a full-count pitch over the right-center field wall for his first career grand slam.

In the home eighth, the Aviators plated two insurance runs, including their third home run of the night – a solo blast from Nate Mondou.

Vilade had the only mutli-hit game for the Isotopes, who finished with seven knocks. Goudeau allowed six hits and four earned runs in four-plus innings of work.

Topes Scope: – Vilade hit the first grand slam of his professional career, in what was his 45th at-bat with the sacks full.

– The grand slam was Albuquerque’s fifth of the season, although they are only 2-3 when it has taken place.

– Vilade is 12-for-25 with three home runs and eight RBI in his last six games, raising his batting average from .234 to .263.

– Albuquerque has lost their last six games in Las Vegas and is 4-11 at Las Vegas Ballpark since it opened in 2019.

– The Isotopes have dropped 15 of their last 19 series openers on the road, dating back to Aug. 30, 2019 at Fresno.

– Alan Trejo stole his first base since July 12, 2021 at Round Rock.
