Javier Homers, Kernels Fall 2-1 to Timber Rattlers

Multi-Hit Games Fuel Friday Kernels' Win

June 30, 2022 – Midwest League (MWL)Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

Appleton WI – Cedar Rapids shortstop Wander Javier provided a two-hit game and homered in the fifth to account for the Kernels’ lone run in a 2-1 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday evening. All three runs in the game came courtesy of home runs, with the two sides combining to go 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Kernels fall to 45-27, 2-4 in the second half.

Cade Povich fired a quality start for the Kernels on a night when the club needed him to save innings from a taxed bullpen, going 6.0 innings of two-run ball to take a hard-luck loss. The lefthander struck out three and scattered five hits while walking one, throwing 62 strikes on 94 pitches.

Down 2-0 entering the fifth, Javier led off the frame with a no-doubter blast to deep left.

Bobby Milacki retired each of the six men he faced to close out the final two innings for Cedar Rapids.

Game four of the series is set for 6:40 p.m. CT on Friday evening in Appleton.
