The Portland Sea Dogs mounted a comeback win, 4-2, securing a series victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. In the top of the first inning, John Aiello worked a one-out walk and Orelvis Martinez singled, putting runners on the corners. Trevor Schwecke doubled to left, scoring Aiello, giving New Hampshire a 1-0 lead. New Hampshire added to their lead in the top of the sixth. Chris Bec reached base on a throwing error from David Hamilton and stole second base. Cam Eden hit a ground-rule double into the left-field corner, plating Bec, and expanding the Fisher Cats lead to 2-0. Portland fought back in the bottom of the seventh, plating three runs. David Hamilton was hit by a pitch to lead off, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Chris Bec. Kole Cottam walked and Tyler Dearden drove in Hamilton with an RBI single, making it 2-1. Alex Binelas walked to load the bases and Ceddanne Rafaela hit an infield single, scoring Cottam, tying the game 2-2. With the bases still loaded, Christian Koss pushed in the final run of the inning with a walk, giving the Sea Dogs their first lead 3-2. The Sea Dogs added one more run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI groundout from Dearden, leading them to a 4-2 win.


FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Since June 28th, the Sea Dogs have watched RHP Chase Shugart, RHP Caleb Simpson, and LHP Chris Murphy all make the move to Double-A Worcester. RHP Bryan Mata and RHP Ryan Fernandez were added to the roster over the past week and pitched well in their first outings. Mata made two appearances against the Fisher Cats, tossing 7.1 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits while finishing the week with a 1.23 ERA. Fernandez made his first relief appearance on Sunday, logging two strikeouts over 1.0 inning, giving up one unearned run.

HITTIN’ HAMILTON – David Hamilton enjoyed his first series back at Hadlock Field after a two-week road trip. He played in five games against the Fisher Cats, going 9-for-17 (.529), with three RBI, three walks, and six stolen bases. He stole at least one base in four of the five games, swiping two bags on two separate occasions. Overall, Hamilton raised his average from .206 to .229 in the series, as well as lifting his OBP to .301, the first time it has been over .300 since June 8th.
