Strider quickly inking his name in MLB record books

Former Clemson Tiger and current Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider is continuing to make a name for himself in the MLB.

The right-hander, who made his first appearance on the mound for the current World Series champs last season during the playoffs, threw an impressive 102.5 mph fastball versus the Cincinnati Reds in the Braves’ 4-1 win on Saturday. Strider’s fastball on Saturday was the fastest strike on record thrown by a starting pitcher since the MLB starting tracking velocity in 2008, according to MLB Analyst Rob Friedman.

In addition to this feat, the former Tiger is the only MLB rookie in the modern era to have two games (June 15 and July 2) with 11+ strikeouts and allowing no more than 1 hit, first reported by The Athletic’s David O’Brien.

So far this season, Strider has appeared in 20 games with 11 starts and is currently sporting a 2.90 ERA and 4-2 record in 62.0 innings pitched.

The right-hander played two seasons at Clemson, serving as a weekend starter in 2020, and was later drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
