Omaha Defeats Indianapolis 9-6 on Saturday

PAPILLION, Neb. – The Storm Chasers stole four bases, increasing their International League-leading total to 177 while earning a 9-6 win over the Indians on Saturday from Werner Park. Omaha has secured the series win, leading 4-2, and is leading the season series 9-8 with a chance to secure the season-series win tomorrow.


Indianapolis (69-64) scored first, putting up two runs in the top of the second inning. The Indians plated their first run on a Jared Oliva single before Drew Maggi added another RBI single.

Omaha (65-69) stormed back in the bottom of the frame, scoring the first run on an Indianapolis error. Second baseman Iván Castillo tied the score with a single that score designated hitter Jakson Reetz.

Center fielder Dairon Blanco hit a single in the third inning to score shortstop Maikel Garcia. Reetz launched his third home run inside Werner Park this season to put Omaha ahead 6-2.

Oliva and Maggi each earned RBIs in the fourth before a throwing error in the fifth allowed the Indians to cut the Storm Chasers lead to one run.

Catcher Freddy Fermin pushed another run across the plate with a groundout in the fifth to put Omaha ahead 7-5. Fermin now has a 31-game on-base streak, the fourth longest for the Storm Chasers in the modern franchise era. He is trailing outfielder Brewer Hicklen’s 34-game on-base streak for longest on the team this season.

In the sixth, right fielder Clay Dungan hit a triple to score left fielder Gabriel Cancel. Dungan scored on the play on an Indianapolis throwing error that sent the ball out of play.

Zack Collins hit a sacrifice fly for the Indians in the seventh to cut the deficit to three runs.

Right-hander Andrés Núñez came in and kept the Indians off the scoreboard in the ninth to secure the 9-6 win. He earned his fifth save over his last five appearances, the longest active save streak in the International League.

Omaha and Indianapolis will finish their series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. with coverage starting at 1:45 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
