Hartford, CT Andres Chaparro and Brandon Lockridge each hit two home runs as the Somerset Patriots defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 8-6 in front of a sellout crowd on Friday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. Aaron Schunk hit his 13th home run, and Grant Lavigne had three hits for the Yard Goats who have dropped their last five games.
The Yard Goats remain in the playoff race as Somerset is within two games of Portland. If Somerset wins the second half then Yard Goats have a chance to make the Post-Season with the second best overall record (72-58). Somerset hosts Portland for six games next week.
Somerset scored four runs in the third inning with a two out rally against Hartford starter Noah Gotsis. Austin Wells delivered a two-run double, and Andres Chaparro followed with a two-run home run to make it 4-0. Brandon Lockridge led off the fourth inning with a solo home run and it was 5-0.
The Yard Goats scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Somerset starter Clayton Beeter. Daniel Montano, Julio Carreras and Hunter Stovall all had RBI singles to make it a 5-3 game. The Yankees affiliate got a two-run homer by Andres Chaparro in the fifth inning, his second of the game, to make it 7-3.
Aaron Schunk hit a long homer to left centerfield in the fifth inning, a two-run shot to make it 7-5. Brandon Lockridge hit his second homer of the game in the eighth inning for the Patriots.
The Yard Goats close out the home schedule in the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 and play the final of a six-game series against Somerset. Tony Locey will start for the Yard Goats and Will Warren will start for the Patriots. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP, 100.9 FM and the iheart radio app.
