KODAK, Tenn. – The Tennessee Smokies (69-61, 32-29) snapped a three-game losing streak to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (66-58, 31-29) with a 6-4 win Saturday night at Smokies Stadium. With the victory, the Smokies clinched their first winning season since 2015.
Tennessee took an early lead with an RBI double from Bryce Ball in the bottom of the first inning. After Pensacola had tied the game, the Smokies took the lead for good with a three-run third, highlighted by a homer from Chase Strumpf, his 21st of the year. Miguel Amaya homered for the second consecutive night in the win, and Zach Davis reached four times and stole three bases out of the lead-off spot.
RHP Ben Brown (W, 3-0) continued the Smokies’ stretch of five quality outings in the series. Brown worked five innings of two-run ball while striking out seven. Tennessee’s bullpen turned in a bounce-back effort, as Kyle Johnson and Bailey Horn (S, 4) did not walk a batter over the final four frames.
