Giants prospect Luciano has ‘no problem’ changing positions originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
There’s no doubt that Giants top prospect Marco Luciano will be playing in the big leagues in the near future.
Where he’ll stand on the field, though, isn’t so clear-cut.
While some wonder if Luciano will be the future shortstop of the franchise, others are curious if he’d be willing to change positions during his transition to the big leagues.
“I have no problem with that,” Luciano recently told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Carlos Ramirez. “I just want to play ball and have fun wherever I play. But for now, my goal is to play shortstop.”
While Brandon Crawford is signed for the 2023 season, as free agency hits this winter, the Giants might be interested in grabbing a shortstop like Trea Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers or Carlos Correa of the Minnesota Twins to avoid another shortstop shortage they experienced earlier this season when Crawford and Thairo Estrada were both dealing with injuries.
And if the Giants do make any major offseason moves to add an established shortstop to take over for Crawford after next season, Luciano said he doesn’t mind switching to third base or somewhere in the outfield.

“I have no problem switching positions. I don’t care where I play, I just want to play ball,” Luciano said. “I don’t care who they get or how much money they give out. I just want to play my best.”
The 21-year-old is just excited to take his talent to the next level, and he can’t wait to do it with the Giants.
