Catching up with Keely Rochard

1. How would you describe your first season as a professional softball player?

KR: It was a lot of fun!

2. What did you learn during your first season in the WPF?

KR: I learned that I had to pitch a little differently, the strike zone is a lot bigger.

3. How did your time with Virginia Tech prepare you for the WPF?

KR: It prepared me because at Virginia Tech, I was able to determine a lot on my own that would help make me successful, such as calling my own pitches and throwing bullpens based on when I thought I needed them or how long I needed them. So being able to prepare myself.

4. What was your favorite memory from this summer?

KR: My favorite memory was either being on the road for four weeks, just being able to experience different places and sights. Or, the last week of season, four of us got an Airbnb in Cocoa Beach and we made dinners together and just enjoyed our last week together!

5. What did your daily schedule look like while playing in the league?

KR: When we played at home, we would go to the beach all day and then have the game at night and repeat. On the road, we would eat breakfast, go out and explore and then play.

6. What advice would you give to younger athletes hoping to play professional softball?

KR: Do it because you love it, not because you’re good at it or someone else wants you to. Love what you do and love what you do it for.

7. What was your favorite jersey combo the Pride wore this season?

KR: My favorite was the all white jersey with blue belt and socks.

8. Which city was your favorite that you played in this summer and why?

KR: My favorite was Evansville, Ind. because we got to play at the stadium where “A League of Their Own” was filmed and it was sold out. Autographs took almost two hours after the late games and it was such a cool atmosphere.

9. How did you spend your free time when you weren’t playing?

KR: On the beach hanging out with the girls.

10. What’s next for you?

KR: Right now, I’m working at the nail salon and giving pitching lessons in my hometown area. I hope to maybe play again next summer.

11. What is you message to Hokie Nation?

KR: To Virginia Tech and all of the supporters, I can’t say thank you enough. I am the so proud to be a Hokie and I wish my days wearing that jersey would never end but I promise to represent as if I still was.
