Late Comeback Gives Adam’s Angels 2-0 Lead in 2022 Pizza Bowl

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Adam’s Angels grabbed a second consecutive victory in the University of Louisville baseball program’s 2022 Pizza Bowl, picking up a 9-7 win over Seattle Snide on Wednesday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Angels now hold a 2-0 lead in the seven-game series after a 6-4 win in Tuesday’s opener.

After falling behind 1-0, Seattle Snide plated four runs in the third inning on two-run doubles from Brandon Anderson and Matt Klein and led for most of the day.

The Angels chipped away in the middle innings, getting a sacrifice fly from Tucker Biven in the fourth, a solo homer off the bat of Patrick Forbes in the fifth and a run-scoring single from Biven in the sixth.

However, Seattle kept the lead thanks to a Ryan McCoy solo shot in the fifth and RBI knock from Klein in the seventh.

Adam’s Angels surged in front behind a five-run seventh inning. Forbes launched his second long ball of the day, a two-run home run, to tie the game at six apiece. Will Vierling then gave the Angels the lead with a single that drove home Noah Smith. Tyeler Hawkins followed with a RBI triple and Christian Knapczyk capped the frame with a RBI single of his own.

Seattle pushed a run across in the ninth and had the tying runs in scoring position with two outs, but a foul pop up closed out the victory for the Angels.

Smith led all hitters with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, scoring three times. Forbes drove in three with his two home runs. Eight other Cardinals finished with two hits on the day.

The 2022 Pizza Bowl continues on Saturday with game three scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
