STARKVILLE – Autumn has arrived and with it comes playoff baseball in the Major Leagues.
Mississippi State has two former players still alive in the MLB Playoffs in Seattle Mariners second baseman Adam Frazier and New York Yankees first base coach Travis Chapman.
Frazier is hitting .313 so far in the postseason and helped send Seattle to the American League Division Series with his 3-for-5 performance in Game 2 of the Wild Card against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Frazier provided the go-ahead RBI double in the top of the ninth inning that gave the Mariners a 10-9 lead, which stood to eliminate the Blue Jays.
In all, four former Diamond Dawgs were part of postseason play. St. Louis Cardinals reliever Chris Stratton and New York Mets manager Buck Showalter were both part of the National League Wild Card.
Former MSU pitchers Dakota Hudson and Konnor Pilkington were also part of playoff teams during the regular season, helping the Cardinals and Cleveland Guardians advance into October.
In total, MSU had 41 former players competing in professional baseball this year. A total of 10 players and three coaches competed in the Big Leagues during the regular season.
