The Boston Red Sox will need to find a new bench coach for the 2023 MLB season.

Will Venable, the club’s bench coach for the last two years, was hired to the Texas Rangers staff on Wednesday. He will work under new Rangers manager Bruce Bochy as “associate manager.”

Venable, 40, joined the Red Sox staff before the 2021 campaign. He originally interviewed for Boston’s managerial vacancy prior to the club re-hiring Alex Cora.

In addition to the Red Sox managerial position, Venable has also interviewed for the role with the Detroit Tigers, Oakland A’s, Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, and San Francisco Giants in recent offseasons. With the title of “associate manager” in Texas, he finds himself in position to take over once Bochy steps aside.
