Report: Red Sox trade pitcher Connor Seabold to Rockies for PTBNL or cash originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Red Sox have made another minor offseason move.

MLB Network’s Mark Feinsand reported Tuesday that the Red Sox have traded pitcher Connor Seabold to the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later or cash.

Seabold was designated for assignment (DFA’d) by the Red Sox last week to create a spot on the 40-man roster for veteran starter Corey Kluber.

The 26-year-old right-hander started six games at the major league level over the past two seasons. He compiled a 0-4 record with a 10.55 ERA (25 earned runs allowed), 19 strikeouts, 10 walks and a 2.25 WHIP over 21 1/3 innings. He went 0-4 with a 11.29 ERA in five starts during the 2022 season.

Injuries likely played a part in Seabold being unable to fulfill his potential in Boston. The Rockies are now betting on their ability to unlock his talents.

The Seabold trade is the second deal the Red Sox have made after DFA’ing a pitcher this offseason. They also dealt Darwinzon Hernandez to the Baltimore Orioles last week.
