Arkansas track and cross country teams earn national Program of the Year

Arkansas’s men’s and women’s track and field squads are at the top of the USTFCCCA rankings after a great overall performance during the Razorback Invitational over the weekend.

The women’s track and field unit is ranked No. 1 thanks to a new world-leading time in 400×4 relays (3:26:40), jumping 10 spots in the rankings. Amanda Fassold earned a share of the national lead in the pole vault with her clearance of 4.45m (14-7 1/4a), and Ackera Nugent set a new school record in the 60-meter Hurdles (7.88).

The men’s side jumped to No. 3 after being ranked No. 34 in the first set of rankings. Chris Bailey’s new world-leading time in the 400-meter helped give the Razorbacks the leap. Jamaican Olympian, Carey McLeod, made his Arkansas debut after transferring from Tennessee, finishing with the second-leading collegiate long jump of 8.09-meter (26-6 1/2).

The SEC is heavily represented in both sets of rankings. In the women’s rankings, Florida sits behind the hogs at No. 2, while Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas A&M round out the top ten. On the men’s side, five SEC teams are ranked in the top 10, Arkansas being the highest ranked.
