TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Down to its final out in the bottom of the 13th inning, second baseman Nander De Sedas plated two runs on a double to lead FSU (7-1) to a 7-6 victory over USF (3-6) Wednesday night at Dick Howser Stadium.
The Seminoles led for most of the game, taking a 2-0 lead just three pitches into the game, on a Jaime Ferrer single and James Tibbs III’s second home run of the season. The Noles tacked on a third run against Nolan Hudi when Cade Bush blooped a two-out double to score Jordan Carrion.
Freshman Jamie Arnold struck out four batters and did not allow a hit in 3.0 innings. He stranded a runner in the first two innings and FSU turned its first of two double plays to end the third inning. The Bulls got two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning against David Barrett, but Brennen Oxford struck out Bobby Boser looking to strand a runner and maintain the 3-2 lead.
After USF tied the game in the sixth inning, De Sedas singled and scored Treyton Rank to again retake the lead. The Bulls pulled even in the eighth inning and took their first lead in the 13th on RBI singles from Jackson Mayo and Daniel Cantu. Andrew Armstrong (1-1) relieved Conner Whittaker and struck out the one batter he faced for his first career win.
In the 13th, Treyton Rank walked with one out and scored on Carrion’s triple that got past USF’s diving right fielder. Pinch hitter Gunnett Carlson was hit on the final pitch from Chandler Dorsey (1-1) and was relieved on the base paths by Connor Moore. With two outs, De Sedas blooped a double off the shortstop’s glove, allowing Carrion to score and Moore to slide in under the tag for the win.
The win was the third career walk-off hit for De Sedas at FSU – he had an RBI double vs. North Florida as a freshman and a two-run home run vs. North Carolina in 2021.
