MILLINGTON, Tenn. – University of Chicago’s baseball team blanked Olivet College 9-0 on Monday afternoon at the USA Baseball Complex.
The Maroons led 6-0 after four innings and cruised to their third victory of 2023 behind a strong pitching performance from Hayden Leiderman. The sophomore righty tossed 7.0 scoreless innings and struck out five batters while scattering four hits.
Matthew Guyton then finished off the shutout in relief with 2.0 effective innings and three strikeouts. Brady Miller led the offensive effort with a 2-for-3 day and two RBI. Jack Sharp and Jack Goldstein both each had two hits in support. UChicago opened with the scoring with RBI from Blane Soper and Erik Rindner in the second and third innings, respectively.
A four-run fourth helped to distance the Maroons from Olivet. UChicago capitalized on several Olivet miscues as five of its nine runs were unearned.
The Maroons take on Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 15 at 5 p.m. CT.
