Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt went 4-1 on the week and won the weekend series vs. LMU at Hawkins Field. The Commodores defeated Tennessee Tech 12-1 Tuesday behind three-hit games by Chris Maldonado and RJ Schreck. The win marked No. 850 at Vanderbilt for head coach Tim Corbin who passed the 950 career wins mark earlier this season. Wednesday’s game vs. Evansville went 17 innings with Parker Noland ending the game with a walk-off single for a 2-1 Vanderbilt win. The game matched the program record for longest game by innings. Freshman JD Thompson made his debut for Vandy and tossed the final three innings without allowing a hit for his first collegiate win. Ryan Ginther was also impressive on the mound, working a career-high four innings with a career-high seven strikeouts. The Dores took Game 1 of the weekend series vs. LMU 2-1 on Friday. Carter Holton went six innings and allowed just one run on three hits. Sam Hliboki came on in the seventh retired all nine batters he faced to get the win. Enrique Bradfield Jr. lined the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh to put the Dores in front.Vanderbilt’s pitching staff was dominant again on Saturday as Hunter Owen, Bryce Cunningham and Nick Maldonado threw a combined shutout. Owen threw six scoreless for the win and Maldonado shut the door for his third save on the season. Vanderbilt fell to LMU 9-6 in the series finale on Sunday. The Dores scored four in the ninth but the rally came up short. On the week, Chris Maldonado totaled five doubles and his first collegiate home run as his hot streak continues.
Vanderbilt stays in Nashville but will play at First Horizon Park Tuesday against Belmont in the first of two All 4 Lou games. Vandy will meet Lipscomb on March 21 at First Horizon with both games benefitting the Live Like Lou fund for ALS research. After the midweek contest Vanderbilt…
