Michigan Rolls to Five-Inning Win Over Bowling Green in Midweek Contest

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan softball team earned a 9-0 five-inning victory over Bowling Green in a non-conference contest Wednesday (March 15) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.

The Wolverines (12-10) used six runs on six hits in the bottom of the third inning to solidify its decisive victory over the Falcons (7-13). The Michigan pitching staff allowed just two hits on the day as Lauren Derkowski (7-4) earned her seventh win of the season, throwing 3.1 innings and striking out five, while Jessica LaBeau and Hannah George each threw an inning of relief.

At the plate, the entire starting lineup tallied a hit as Ella McVey went 3-for-3 and scored twice, while Lexie Blair and Keke Tholl each collected a hit and drove in two runs. Ellie Sieler and Melina Livingston both had extra-base hits, with Sieler tripling down the first-base line and Livingston roping a double to the right-center field wall.

Michigan got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Ellie Mataya earned a leadoff walk and worked her way to second on a stolen base. After battling in a nine-pitch at-bat, Erikson hit a single up the middle to score Mataya from second and give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

U-M tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to extend its lead to 3-0 when it loaded the bases and a Blair single up the middle scored Audrey LeClair and McVey.
