Maryland Faces Great Danes For Weekend Series

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland welcomes American East opponent Albany to Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium for the first time in program history from March 17-19. Wednesday’s game will be available on B1G+ and Maryland Baseball Network with updates available via @TerpsBaseball on Twitter.

 THIS WEEK’S STORYLINES

The Matchup

  • Maryland welcomes American East opponent Albany to Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium for the first time in program history from March 17-19. This weekend’s games will  be available on B1G+ and the Maryland Baseball Network.
  • This marks the first matchup between the two schools in program history. Maryland enters the weekend series in the midst of a five-game win streak.
  • The Great Danes (2-7-1) come into the weekend after going 1-2 over the weekend against St. John’s. The Great Danes picked up a 9-5 win on Friday thanks to four shutout innings from the bullpen and a four RBI performance from Dan Tauken.
  • Junior Outfielder Dan Tauken continues to lead the  way at the plate for the Great Danes. Tauken is batting .406 and has totaled a team-high 13 hits with four doubles and three home runs.

So Far This Season

  • The Terps won their fifth straight after scoring six runs in the ninth and 10th innings to pick up a dramatic 13-11 extra-inning victory at Delaware on Wednesday, March 15.
  • Maryland claimed its first series sweep of the 2023 campaign, taking all three games against Maine. The series was highlighted by a 25 run explosion on Friday night that included back-to-back home runs from Nick Lorusso and Matt Shaw in both the first and third inning.
  • Maryland used 12 hits, including a three RBI triple from Matt Woods, to overwhelm the UMBC Retrievers in a 12-6 victory in College Park on Tuesday, March 7.
  • The Terps traveled to the Cambria Collegiate Classic, played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn March 3-5. Maryland suffered losses to No. 4 Ole Miss, No. 7 Vanderbilt and Hawaii.
  • Maryland claimed an 8-3 victory over Delaware in a midweek matchup. Ian Petrutz came away with his fifth home run in his first eight games while Elijah Lambros smashed a two-run blast for his third home run as a Terp.
