The Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals 3-0 in Thursday night’s exhibition game.
Here are the takeaways…
– Kodai Senga made his second start of the spring, and his first since suffering from tendinitis in his right index finger. He pitched well, limiting the Nationals lineup to a ton of soft contact in his three innings of work.
The only damage against Senga came via an Alex Call sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. Other than that, he was in control for most of the outing.
Senga ran into some trouble after back-to-back two out singles in the second, but he settled in and finished his outing with four consecutive strikeouts, including Dominic Smith on a nasty breaking ball.
Overall, Senga threw 47 pitches across three innings and allowed just the one run on three hits while striking out five. Most importantly, he said he felt good following the outing.
– David Robertson entered in the fourth in place of Senga and he enjoyed a solid second outing of the spring, too. The right-hander generated three groundouts and worked around a two-out double in a scoreless inning.
– Jimmy Yacabonis worked an easy bottom of the eight, he’s still yet to allow a run across six inning this spring.
– The Mets weren’t able to get much going offensively, as they were shutout for the third time this spring and mustered just four hits on the night.
– Tomas Nido continued his strong start to the spring with another hit and a walk. He’s quietly batting .407 with a 1.222 OPS, three homers, and five RBI through 30 Grapefruit League at-bats.
– Tim Locastro reached base three more times and added his sixth stolen base of the spring.
