Cats Fall, 8-3, to Utah in Game One

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 17 Arizona (19-8) fell to Utah, 8-3, on Friday night in Tucson. Arizona’s three runs were all solo home runs but it wasn’t enough for the Cats to make a comeback.
 
Devyn Netz went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run but picked up the loss in the circle to fall to 8-7 on the season. She pitched 3.1 innings, striking out three but gave up five runs.
 
Utah put two runs up in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles. A solo home run in the top of the second gave Utah a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, a two-RBI single for the Utes put them up 5-0.
 
Netz hit her solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to put the Cats on the board following three scoreless innings for Arizona. Utah answered Netz’s home run with a solo home run in the fifth and another in the sixth to extend their lead.
 
Allie Skaggs hit her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to score Arizona’s second run of the game.
 
The Utes hit their fourth solo home run of the game in the seventh inning. In Arizona’s last at-bats, Dakota Kennedy hit her second career homer for the third run of the game for the Cats.
 
Brianna Hardy relieved Netz in the fourth, giving up one run in 1.0 innings pitched. Sydney Somerndike entered for the final 2.2 innings, allowing two runs while striking out one Ute.
