Three-Run Sixth Lifts No. 8 Huskies Over No. 3 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – No. 8 Washington (22-4, 3-1 Pac-12) opened the three-game set at No. 3 UCLA with a 4-3 victory at Easton Stadium on Friday night.
 
After three scoreless innings, the Huskies struck first. Olivia Johnson led off the fourth with a walk and Megan Vandegrift came in to pinch run. After Rylee Holtorf reached on a fielder’s choice, Vandegrift was able to get to third on a throwing error. SilentRain Espinoza brought across the first run of the game on an RBI groundout.
 
UCLA tied the contest in the bottom half of the inning on a Sharlize Palacios RBI single with no outs. Ruby Meylan and the Husky defense was able to get out of a bases loaded jam with a 5-3 double play keep the game level at one.
 
Sydney Stewart drew a leadoff walk in the sixth, Brooklyn Carter came in to pinch run. Holtorf singled to put runners at first and second, both would move up a base on a double steal. Espinoza hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Carter. Kelley Lynch came in to pinch hit and recorded an RBI on the groundout, scoring Holtorf from third. Baylee Klingler brought in the third Husky run of the inning with a solo home run, her seventh of the season.
 
The Bruins fought back to get the game within one after plating two unearned runs in the sixth.
