Bombs Away – California Golden Bears Athletics

Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The California softball team collected 19 hits and crushed five home runs to tie the series in a 15-6 victory over Oregon State in game two on Saturday at Kelly Field.

The Bears (20-7, 2-3 Pac-12) got two home runs from Kacey Zobac and one each off the bat of Sona Halajian, Sophie Medellin and Makena Smith

Cal took advantage of control issues from Oregon State starter Ellie Garcia in the first, scoring a run when Sophie Medellin got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, the second of the frame after a walk and a Beaver error.

The Bear bats broke out in the top of the second with a pair of two-run bombs off the bats of Halajian and Zobac to give Cal a five-run lead. OSU got three back in the third on an RBI double and a two-run home run to make it 5-3 heading to the fourth.

Continuing the back-and-forth game, Cal scored three in the top half with a Zobac RBI sac fly and a Smith two-run homer to dead center. Abby Doerr hit a three-run home run of her own in the home half, forcing Cal to go to Annabel Teperson out of the bullpen, who stranded two Beavers to keep it a two-run game.

After adding a run in both the fifth and sixth, the Bears put it away in the seventh with five runs, a second three-run shot from Zobac, along with RBI hits from D’Asha Saiki and Diamond Holland.
