OXFORD, Miss. – Purdue softball fell 2-12 to the Ole Miss Rebels in a five-inning run rule in the final game of the Rebel Invitation. The results bring the Boilermakers record to 14-12 while the Rebels improve to 16-12.
Purdue recorded three hits including a double from both Jade Moy and Kiara Dillon while Alex Echazarreta earned a single and RBI. Purdue’s runs were collected by Moy and Khloe Banks.
Freshman Julianna Verni secured her first and second career strikeouts over her 1.0 innings pitched.
Alexa Pinarski is tagged the loss in her 0.2 innings pitched dropping her record to 1-3. Mo Wimpee notched one strikeout in her 2.0 innings pitched. Madi Elish and Kendall Klochack both saw time in the circle while Verni closed the game in the last inning with two total strikeouts.
The Rebels collected an early seven-run lead in the first inning followed by two runs in both the second and third. The Boilermakers earned one run in the fourth inning with bases loaded, but unfortunately were left on base while the Rebels added another run. Purdue produced two out their three hits in the fifth inning with one run, but could not overcome the
Purdue will play its first home game on Tuesday, March 21 in Bittinger Stadium in doubleheader fashion against the Indiana State Sycamores. The two games are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.
