Tigers come back to beat Texas A&M, win 1st SEC series

In Game 2, LSU rode its relentless offense to a comeback victory as it beat Texas A&M 12-7 on Saturday to take the weekend series.

LSU wasted bases-loaded opportunities in the first and second innings where it could’ve blown the game open. The Aggies took advantage of that as they scored two runs in both the second and third innings to take a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth.

In the top of the fourth, though, the Tiger bats came to life. LSU scored six runs to take a 6-4 lead. Tommy White hit a two-RBI single with bases loaded to score Jordan Thompson and Brady Neal. Gavin Dugas hit an RBI single to score Crews. Josh Pearson hit an RBI double to right field. Jared Jones hit a two-RBI single to score Pearson and Dugas to take a 6-4 lead.

The Aggies got one of those runs back on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 6-5.

LSU got some insurance in the top of the sixth inning when Jones hit a three-run homer to left field to make it 9-5.

The Aggies scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to try and claw their way back into the game. With the score 9-6 in the top of the seventh, White hit an RBI single and Jones hit a two-RBI single to double the score of the Aggies as LSU led 12-6 heading into the eighth inning.

Ty Floyd got the start on the mound and he got roughed up a bit. He allowed five runs (3 earned runs) on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in only 3.1 innings. Garrett Edwards came in to pitch after Floyd and gave up one run on three hits, three walks, and five strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Riley Cooper and Blake Money came out of the bullpen to finish the game and secure the victory. With the win, LSU takes the series and they will look for the sweep in Game 3 on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
