Win Streak Snapped – Stanford University Athletics

EUGENE, OR – No. 7 Stanford softball had its 21-game winning streak come to a close, falling in a defensive battle to No. 20 Oregon, 2-1, on Saturday at Jane Sanders Stadium.

Taylor Gindlesperger, River Mahler, Aly Kaneshiro and Kaitlyn Lim each had a hit for the Stanford offense, with Gindlesperger scoring a run in the opening frame. Regan Krause and NiJaree Canady split the time in the circle, combining for five strikeouts while allowing six hits and two runs. The Oregon run in the first inning was the first allowed this season by Canady in 51.1 frames.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinal got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Gindlesperger came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stanford, but Oregon scored two times over the remaining six innings to grab the 2-1 win.

GAME NOTES

» Stanford pitchers limited Oregon to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.

» Stanford pitchers faced 25 Oregon hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and five fly balls while striking out five.

» Four different Stanford batters recorded a hit.

Stanford closes the series with Oregon on Sunday, March 18 at noon. The contest will air on Pac-12 Networks.
