ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany freshman Dylan Banner has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The award is the first of the season for the young pitcher.
Banner tossed three innings of relief on Saturday afternoon, collecting the save as UAlbany took down Big Ten powerhouse Maryland, 6-3. In his three innings of work, he only allowed three hits and did not walk a single batter. He struck out three in the process, facing 11 total batters.
Banner, a right-handed pitcher from Plainview, N.Y., has appeared in five games this season, starting in two. He has amassed a 5.28 ERA over 15.1 innings pitched, striking out 16 batters.
