Alabama ends Lady Vols’ winning streak

No. 16 Alabama (24-9, 2-3 SEC) defeated No.4 Tennessee (25-2, 7-1 SEC), 4-2, Saturday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The loss ended Tennessee’s 20-game winning streak.

The Crimson Tide scored first as Kali Helvlin hit a solo home run off Karlyn Pickens, the reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week.

The Lady Vols took a 2-1 lead in their half of the first inning as Zaida Puni hit a two-run single, scoring Kiki Milloy and Lauren Beautae.

The Crimson Tide regained the lead in the third inning.

Kenleigh Cahalan tied the game. 2-2, with an RBI single before Helvlin  helped Alabama regain the lead with an RBI single.

The Crimson Tide added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Jenna Johnson that scored former Lady Vol Ally Shipman.
