Tech Rolls on to No. 7 Florida State – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS –  Georgia Tech softball (16-15, 2-7 ACC) will dive deeper into its five-game road swing, heading to No. 7 Florida State (26-7, 5-1 ACC) for its third consecutive top-15 ACC weekend series. The Yellow Jackets and Seminoles will open the series on Friday at 6 p.m., follow on Saturday 1 p.m. and wrap up the series on Sunday at 2 p.m., all at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla.

Storylines

  • Georgia Tech recently run-ruled Kennesaw State, 8-0 (6), for its fourth mercy-rule victory of the season.
  • The Yellow Jackets reached double digit triples on the season for the first time since 2014, improving 10 total behind sophomore right fielder Madison Dobbins’ second three-bagger of the year.
  • In the contest, senior catcher Emma Kauf went 3-for-4 with four RBI as she roped a pair of doubles, moving into a tie with Lindsay Wood (2000-03) for fifth in program history in career doubles with 44 to date.
  • Senior right hander Blake Neleman (5-6) has moved into second all-time in career strikeouts, also becoming the second Yellow Jacket ever to surpass 500 career strikeouts with 509 to date.
  • On top of marching through Tech’s record books in strikeouts, Neleman has picked up a pair of saves this season, moving up to six in her career as she’s now in an eight-way tie for third in program history in career saves.
  • Neleman pitched a gem of a two-hit, complete-game shutout for the win over Kennesaw State.
  • In six innings of work, the unflappable hurler racked up seven strikeouts to surpass the century mark on the season with 101 punchouts and counting.
  • The outing was Neleman’s fourth complete game this year, but her first shutout this season.
  • On the season, Neleman (101) and Dennis (69) have combined for 170 strikeouts.
  • Defense has gone hand in hand with work from the circle this season as the Jackets are second in the ACC and 12th in the NCAA in fielding percentage (.979).
  • Amongst the conference this season, Neleman is third in the ACC with 101 punchouts.
  • Racking up wins as of late, Dennis is now third in the ACC with 10 victories in the circle.
