No. 11 Duke Travels to UNC Wilmington for Midweek Doubleheader


DURHAM – The 11th-ranked Blue Devils continue their six-game road swing on Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader at UNC Wilmington. The first game is slated for 2 p.m., with the second to follow at 4:30 p.m.
 
Duke (28-8, 10-5 ACC) enters the midweek matchup fresh off a 2-1 series win over 13th-ranked Virginia Tech (27-8, 9-3 ACC). The Blue Devils claimed an exciting 7-1 victory on Saturday, highlighted by sophomore Ana Gold’s grand slam late in the seventh inning, before splitting a pair of games on Sunday. The Blue Devils defeated the Hokies, 5-1, in the opening contest before falling, 13-8, in the nightcap.
 
UNC Wilmington is coming off a 2-1 conference series win over Stony Brook over the weekend. The Seahawks claimed the first two games over the Seawolves on Friday and Saturday, outscoring SBU 15-6 before falling, 3-2, in the series finale. Sophomore Elizabeth Winstead carries her career-best 10-game hitting streak into Wednesday’s matchup, the longest hit streak by a Seahawk batter in 2023.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Wednesday’s doubleheader with UNC Wilmington will mark the first meeting between the two teams. The Seahawks, led by first-year head coach Ashley Wade, returns a veteran team that features three graduate students and nine seniors. UNCW enters the weekend with 14-18 ledger on the season.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils return home on Friday to host Elon in a 6 p.m., matchup at Duke Softball Stadium. Admission is free and Friday’s contest will be a Bark in the Park night. Bring your dog to the ballpark for a chance to be selected as the featured dog of the game.
