Fifth-Ranked Seminoles Prepare for Another Top 25 Road Test at No. 22 Virginia Tech

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Florida State softball team (36-8, 13-2) hits the road once again for its fourth-straight road series against a ranked opponent as they head to Blacksburg, Va., to take on No. 22 Virginia Tech (33-12, 12-6).

This is the first time in school history that the Seminoles have played four consecutive series against a ranked opponent on the road. The Noles last four road series include at No. 3 Oklahoma State, at No. 10 Duke, at No. 6 Clemson and now at No. 22 Virginia Tech.

The two teams will play on Thursday (7 p.m.), Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.) at Tech Softball Park in Blacksburg. Thursday’s game can be seen on ESPN2 while Friday’s game will be on ACC Network Extra. The series finale can be seen on the ACC Network.

The Seminoles will be making their first trip to Blacksburg since 2017. The Seminoles have not lost to the Hokies in Blacksburg since 2012.

The series will see one of the best pitching staffs in the country take on one of the best power hitting teams in the country. The Seminoles come into the series with a 1.69 team ERA which ranks ninth in the country. The Hokies are the nation’s best team at hitting the long ball as they have hit 84 home runs this season. The Noles are giving up just 1.46 runs in ACC play while the Hokies are averaging 5.5 runs per game in ACC play.

  • The Hokies took two out of three from the Seminoles last season in Tallahassee.

Pitching by Committee

  • In conference play, the Seminoles have two out of the top three lowest ERA’s in the conference. Makenna Reid leads the conference with a 0.38 ERA in conference play with Kathryn Sandercock right behind her with 0.47 ERA.
  • The Seminoles used four pitchers against Clemson and held the Tigers, who were ranked top five nationally in scoring, to just one earned run.
  • The team boasts a 1.69 ERA which is ninth in the country.
