After falling just short against North Florida, 15-14, in 10 innings Wednesday night, the Seminoles are back on the diamond in a pivotal ACC series. The Hokies enter the contest off a sweep of Georgia Tech, while FSU was swept at NC State.

Sophomore Jackson Baumeister is set to make his 10th start of the season for game one of the series against Virginia Tech on Friday night. His last start at home, against Clemson, Baumeister set career highs with 7.0 IP and 14 strikeouts and was named the national pitcher of the week by multiple outlets.

Conner Whittaker will start for the Noles in Saturday’s contest for his fourth time this season. The right hander pitched into the eighth inning in back-to-back starts, and thrown at least 5.0 innings in all three career starts.

Sophomore Jaime Ferrer leads the FSU offense with a .353 batting average through thirty-six games. Wednesday against North Florida he extended his hitting streak to six games, with a two-run home run and RBI single. Ferrer now leads the team with 31 RBI, 54 hits, 21 extra-base hits and 16 multi-hit games, as well as him being third on the team for home runs with seven.

Also on offense, Cam Smith recorded four hits, two home runs, three RBI and five runs Wednesday at North Florida. He became the first Seminole since current Tampa Bay Ray Taylor Walls in 2017 to score five runs in a game. It was Smith’s second game of the season – and FSU’s sixth – that a Nole had at least three hits, three RBI and three runs scored.

FSU leads the all-time series with Virginia Tech, 48-16. In 2021, FSU won two of three games against the Hokies in Blacksburg.
