THE FLATS – Third baseman Drew Compton hit the second grand slam of his career on Tuesday night to catapult Georgia Tech baseball over Mercer, 6-3, at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (23-18) also got two-hit days and RBI doubles out of John Giesler and Jack Rubenstein in the sixth and seventh to capitalize on runners in scoring position. The Bears (26-16) were held to just one extra-base hit on the night and left 13 runners on, hitting just 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position.
LHP Camron Hill had a career night, going a career-long 4.1 innings scoreless, surrendering only two hits, while striking out four. LHP Cody Carwile (3-2) came in and allowed just one earned run over the next 1.2 innings, striking out two more before RHP Aeden Finateri earned his second save of his career, tossing 3.0 innings of five-hit, one-run ball with no walks and three strikeouts.
In addition to Giesler and Rubenstein’s multi-hit nights, Tech finished with nine hits on the night. Jake DeLeo, Stephen Reid, Jackson Finley and Jadyn Jackson all finished with a hit.
Mercer was led by Jozsef Rohrbacher, who was 3-for-4, while LHP Fred Wilson (0-2), took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
Georgia Tech remains home when it hosts Gardner-Webb for a non-conference matchup on April 28-April 30. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
