Astros' Chas McCormick goes 1 for 2, scores a run in Tuesday's rehab start with Hooks

Astros outfielder Chas McCormick went 1 for 2 with a walk and scored a run in his rehab start with the Hooks on Tuesday against the Amarillo Sod Poodles at Whataburger Field.

McCormick also made a diving catch in centerfield for the third out of the seventh inning of a game that resulted in a 3-1 Hooks win.

McCormick, who left Houston in April with lower back tightness, was playing his first game in Corpus Christi since the 2019 minor league season.

Hooks: Chas McCormick 1-2, BB, R; Joey Liperfido 1-2, R; Shay Whitcomb 1-4, 2B, 3 RBI; Spencer Arrighetti 5 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 5 K; Julio Robaina 4 IP, 3 H, R, BB, K.

Highlights: Shay Whitcomb provided all three of the Hooks’ runs with a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s series opener against the Sod Poodles. The inning started with Quincy Hamilton and Chas McCormick drawing back-to-back walks and Joey Liperfido hitting a single to load the bases. Corpus Christi starter Spencer Arrighetti kept the Hooks in the game after delivering five scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Julio Robaina pitched the final four frames, allowing one run on three hits with a strikeout.
