Wappingers Falls, N.Y. – The Wilmington Blue Rocks scored all five of their runs in the first two innings to defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades 5-2 on Tuesday night at Heritage Financial Park.

Joel Valdez was forced to make a spot start after a late change. In the first inning, Wilmington pounced on Valdez (0-1) for four runs as four of the first five Blue Rocks batters recorded a hit.

Nick Shumpert and Jacob Young singled to begin the game and place runners on the corners. With James Wood at the plate, Young drew a throw to first. Shumpert then scored on the ensuing rundown, while Young reached second safely. Two batters later, Onix Vega singled home Young, and Trey Lipscomb homered over the left field wall to complete the scoring.

The Blue Rocks scratched across their final run in the second on a Young RBI double. The Wilmington left fielder recorded two of the team’s five hits in the game, and it would be the last hit that the Renegades pitching staff would allow. Valdez closed out his night with a 1-2-3 third before exiting after walking the leadoff batter in the fourth.

Hudson Valley scored both runs in the bottom of the third. Chance Huff (2-1) retired the first two men in the inning before Marcos Cabrera singled to become the first Renegade hitter to reach base against Huff. The next batter, Spencer Jones, tripled to score Cabrera. Alexander Vargas doubled home Jones but was thrown out attempting to extend his double into a triple.

The Renegades bullpen combined to toss six scoreless innings. At one point, Bailey Dees and Jack Neely combined to strike out seven batters in a row. Neely finished with six strikeouts in 2.1 innings, and Dees with five punchouts in 2.2 innings tossed. Nick Paciorek turned in a 1-2-3 ninth inning of his own with a strikeout.

Hudson Valley continues its series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Heritage Financial Park on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 5:45. The Renegades have not announced a starter, while the Blue Rocks send LHP Andrew Alvarez (1-1, 4.30) to the bump.
