Megan Faraimo Earns Pac-12 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO – Redshirt senior pitcher Megan Faraimo has been named Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2023 season, the conference office announced Thursday morning. Faraimo is the first UCLA softball player to win the award and UCLA’s 23rd total recipient in its 16-year history.

The award is presented in each of the 24 sports sponsored by the Pac-12 and was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

Faraimo has earned her bachelor’s degree in communications and has a 3.69 cumulative grade-point average. Yesterday, she was named the back-to-back Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year and became the 10th player in UCLA history to be named to the All-Pac-12 First Team 10 times in a career. Faraimo currently leads the nation with 28 wins and the conference with 215 strikeouts. Faraimo was named a top 10 finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year for the second time of her career earlier this season on May 3.

Faraimo, who has thrown two no-hitters this year, has picked up a win in each of her last 15 appearances dating back to March 25.

In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility), on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season. The athletics accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in voting for the award.
