Baseball Falls in Tuesday Night Contest at UVU

OREM, Utah Matt Flaharty homered for the second time this season and Karson Bodily smacked his third triple—highlighting six extra base hits for Utah—but a five-run eighth inning for Utah Valley proved too much to overcome as the Utes fell, 13-7, on Tuesday night at UCCU Ballpark.
 
The Utes now prepare for their final Pac-12 Conference series of the regular season, hosting Oregon at Smith’s Ballpark in a series beginning on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. MT.
 
Jayden Kiernan extended his on-base streak to 13 straight games and on-base streak to 33 games, and five Utes had multi-hit performances toward the team’s 13 total hits on the night. TJ Clarkson and Flaharty each drove in two runs and Kaden Carpenter, Clarkson, Davis Cop and Bruer Webster each doubled in the game.
 
Utah grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when Clarkson followed Cop’s double with a two-bagger of his own. Clarkson put the 0-2 pitch into shallow right field, rolling along the line and scoring Cop.
 
Flaharty’s dinger came in the second inning and swelled the Utes’ lead to 3-0. Carpenter led off with a walk, then Flaharty took the first pitch for a strike, then drilled the 0-1 to right center field and past the scoreboard.
 
UVU got two runs back in its half of the second inning on a two-run homer.
