Cowley named Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist


EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon shortstop Drew Cowley has been named one of 25 semifinalists for the 2023 Brooks Wallace Award which honors the nation’s top shortstop.
 
Cowley (Upland, Calif. / Upland HS) is batting .337 (65-for-193) with 14 home run, 55 RBI and 47 runs scored. He has 30 extra-base hits (12 doubles, 1 triple) and is slugging .642 while reaching base at a .422 clip. Cowley leads the Ducks in batting average, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage while ranking second in doubles, runs scored and walks.
 
Cowley is one of just four semifinalists with more than 13 home runs, joining Maryland’s Matt Shaw, Maine’s Jake Rainess and Northern Kentucky’s Noah Fisher. The Ducks’ shortstop has multiple hits in 19 of his last 35 games while reaching base multiple times in 29 of those games. Cowley has been named a Collegiate Baseball Player of the Week, the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week and the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Week earlier this season.
 
Cowley is the second Ducks’ shortstop in as many years to be named a semifinalist joining Josh Kasevich.
