DURHAM – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its 2023 Academic All-District Softball Teams on Tuesday with Claire Davidson, Deja Davis, Francesca Frelick, Lillie Walker and Jala Wright earning recognition.
The CSC recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, which will be released on June 6.
Davidson, who hails from Lakewood Ranch, Fla., owns a 3.70 GPA and is majoring in sociology with a financial economics minor. The junior has started in 53-of-55 games this year and holds a .336 batting average with five home runs and 27 RBI.
A native of Cerritos, Calif., Davis turned in a 3.73 undergraduate GPA, earning a degree in sociology in 2022 before working toward her master’s degree in environmental management. Davis, a five-year starter, is hitting .385 and leads the team in doubles with 15 on the year.
Frelick, a product of Lexington, Mass., owns a 3.533 GPA and is a sociology major with a financial economics minor. The junior has seen action in 52-of-55 games and has collected four home runs, 12 RBI and 31 hits on the season.
Walker, who is majoring in psychology with an education minor, earned the distinction with a 3.725 GPA. The Inola, Okla., native holds a 0.88 ERA after working 47.2 innings in her 23 appearances in the circle. The junior sits with a 7-2 ledger on the year.
A Charlotte, N.C., native, Wright earned a 3.725 GPA and is working toward a degree in sociology. The junior leads the Blue Devils’ pitching staff with 126.1 innings pitched in 34 appearances and has collected 123 strikeouts on the year. She holds a 12-4 record on the season.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore standing at their current school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and be nominated by her sports information director.
