Five Wolverines Selected CSC Academic All-District

ANN ARBOR, Mich.Cody Jefferis, Jack Van Remortel, Chase Allen, Jacob Denner and Walker Cleveland of the University of Michigan baseball team were each named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday afternoon (May 16). To receive the honor, student-athletes must have completed at least one year of classes and have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.

Jefferis is pursuing a certificate in social work as a graduate student. He transferred from the University of San Diego after graduating with a degree in Communications. He has started every game this season at shortstop and is hitting .288 on the season with a .412 on-base percentage. He hit for the cycle on Sunday (May 14) with his first career home run as a Wolverine.

Van Remortel is earning his degree in Sport Management from the School of Kinesiology and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He has appeared in 44 of the 48 games this season and is currently second on the team in average at .299. He has four home runs on the season including a walk-off winner against Central Michigan back on March 28.

Allen, like Van Remortel, is earning his degree in Sport Management from the School of Kinesiology and was also a 2022 Academic All-Big Ten honoree. He has started 12 games and has 49 strikeouts in 52 innings. Allen’s season was highlighted by an eighth inning start against Cal State Fullerton when he allowed just three runs and struck out 10 batters on Feb. 26.

Denner is also pursuing a degree in Sport Management from the School of Kinesiology. He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection earning in the honor in 2021 and 2022. Denner has appeared in 20 games with nine starts on the season with 59 strikeouts in 61.1 innings. He was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week after a complete game victory against Minnesota on May 7.

Cleveland is pursing a Master’s degree in Sport Management after graduating with a degree in Economics last year. He was a three-time academic All-Big Ten honoree earning the honor in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Cleveland has pitched 13 innings this season with one start and eight strikeouts.
