Ponies Power Past Fisher Cats in Series Opener

MANCHESTER, NH – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-18) defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7-5 on Tuesday night in the series opener at Delta Dental Stadium.

Down 4-3 in the seventh, Binghamton started the frame with consecutive singles from Agustin Ruiz and Hayden Senger. Wyatt Young then drew a walk to load the bases with none out. That brought up Matt Rudick, who belted a two-run double off the right-centerfield wall to bring home Ruiz and Senger and put the Ponies on top 5-4. Later in the frame, Brandon McIlwain added a two-out, two-run single to extend the Ponies lead to 7-4 and complete the four-run inning.


With Binghamton up 7-5 in the ninth, Dylan Hall pitched a 1-2-3 inning for his first save of the year. Hall has not allowed an earned run in nine appearances with Binghamton.

The Rumble Ponies got on the board two batters into the game. After Rudick hit a leadoff double, Rowdey Jordan hit a two-run homer over the right-field wall to put the Ponies up 2-0.

New Hampshire (17-16) would respond with three in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Orelvis Martinez two-run homer to left. Martinez would add a second home run, a solo shot in the third. Ponies starter Dom Hamel settled down and allowed four runs over five innings with no walks and five strikeouts in the no-decision.

Rudick hit a solo homer to right in the fifth to cut the Fisher Cats lead to 4-3. Rudick finished 3-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.

New York Mets righthander Jimmy Yacabonis pitched two scoreless and hitless innings in relief in a rehab appearance with one walk and one strikeout.

The Rumble Ponies have won back-to-back games and continue their series against the Fisher Cats on Wednesday night. First pitch is at 6:35 PM and the NYCM Insurance pregame show gets underway at 6:20 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: It’s Jordan’s second straight game with a home run, he now has 5 RBI over the last two games…It’s Hamel’s second straight start in which he has not issued a walk.
