Virginia Baseball | Gelof, Parker Garner CSC Academic All-District Distinction

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia junior Jake Gelof and graduate student Nick Parker were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. Gelof makes his second-straight appearance on the All-District squad while Parker was recognized for the first time in his career.

The 2023 Academic All‐District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student‐ athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All‐America® ballot.

Gelof, a media studies major, was Virginia’s seventh CSC Academic All-American and first since 2011 when he was named to the first team last season. Gelof has continued his elite run-producing capabilities with 79 RBI this season, third-most in the NCAA. He is batting .343 with 20 doubles, three triples and 20 home runs in 2023. Gelof broke UVA’s career home run record with his 39th career long ball against Richmond on April 11th and now has 45 in three seasons as a Cavaliers. He currently sits seven RBI shy of matching UVA’s career RBI record.

Parker, who is set to graduate with his master’s degree in educational psychology from UVA, has been a consistent piece of the Cavaliers weekend rotation. The righthander sports a 5-0 record with a 4.23 ERA in 11 starts for UVA this season. Virginia his 9-2 in games he starts in 2023. Parker earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Coastal Carolina where he was a regular on CCU’s President’s honor roll. Parker has started 51 games on the mound, the second most of any active D-I pitcher.

First‐, second and third‐team Academic All‐ America® honorees will be announced June 7.
