BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State team captain Luke Hancock was honored for his work off the field on Wednesday (May 17) by being named part of the Southeastern Conference’s Community Service Team.
Over his time at State, Hancock has been active in Starkville and surrounding communities. The Houston, Miss., native activities include participating in the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Program and volunteering with the Miracle League, which assists children with disabilities in playing the game of baseball. He has worked with the Project Noel in his hometown as well. He is pursuing his master’s in Workforce Education Leadership at Mississippi State.
Over his final season in the Maroon and White, Hancock has a .297 average at the plate while compiling an on-base percentage of .453. He is second on the team in drawing walks with 41. He has 18 extra-base hits this season, including 13 doubles and five home runs. Over his time with the Diamond Dawgs, He has appeared in 207 games while making 193 starts.
In a continuing effort to recognize student-athletes’ accomplishments beyond the field of competition, the Southeastern Conference has highlighted a Community Service Team for baseball for the 2023 season. The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
