Peyton Wilson laced a double off the wall in center field in the 10th inning of Tuesday’s series opener to give the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (16-18) a walk-off, 10-9 win over the Springfield Cardinals (14-20). The six-game series continues on Wednesday at Arvest Ballpark in Springfield, Arkansas with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
The Naturals put together a big lead over the first three innings. Jorge Bonifacio *hit a sacrifice fly to plate the game’s first run and *Robbie Glendinning singled to plate two more.
Springfield brought a run home in the second, but Bonifacio singled in another run, Luca Tresh singled to plate the Naturals’ sixth run, and Glendinning doubled to plate Tresh. The Naturals got another run in the third when John Rave reached on an error at second base, scoring Tyler Tolbert to give NWA an 8-1 edge.
Springfield proceeded to score one in the fourth, four in the sixth, and two more in the eighth to come all the way back to even the score. In extra innings, Springfield took the lead after a fly ball and a fielding error allowed a run to score while giving the Cardinals a 9-8 advantage.
In the bottom of the 10th, Tolbert and Wilson delivered. *Morgan McCullough *started the inning at second base and scored when Tolbert doubled to left. With one out, Wilson drove in the game’s winning run by doubling off the wall in center, easily scoring Tolbert to snap a six-game losing streak while earning NWA their first walk-off win of the season.
Adrian Alcantara (2-0, 0.00) earned his second win of the year after throwing 1.0 inning, allowing one unearned run on two hits. The Naturals pitching staff struck out 10 in the game, letting up 15 hits in the win.
The two teams continue their series on Wednesday with a 7:05 PM CT first pitch. NWA will send RHP Jonathan Bowlan (0-2, 12.54) to the mound.
