Seven Earn ABCA All-Region Honors


STANFORD, Calif. – Seven Cardinal were named ABCA/Rawlings West All-Region, it was announced on Tuesday. Tommy Troy, Alberto Rios, Braden Montgomery, Quinn Mathews and Drew Dowd were each listed on the first team, while Malcolm Moore and Ryan Bruno landed on the second team.

Troy, the Pac-12 batting champion, is currently hitting .397 with 74 runs scored, 17 doubles, four triples, 17 homers and 58 RBIs.

Rios, a first-team All-American and the Pac-12 Player of the Year, enters the College World Series hitting .387 with 69 runs scored, 23 doubles, 18 homers and 71 RBIs.

Montgomery is hitting .336 with 69 runs scored, 14 doubles, a triple, 17 homers and 60 RBIs. The native of Madison, Miss. is an All-Pac-12 first team selection.

Mathews, an All-American and Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, has registered a 10-4 record with a 3.60 ERA over 18 appearances and 17 starts this season. The left-hander has logged 120 innings and struck out 152 compared to just 39 walks.

Dowd, an honorable mention All-Pac-12 reliever, has appeared in 30 games, starting three. The left-hander is 9-3 on the season and owns a 4.76 ERA in 62 1/3 innings with 85 strikeouts.

Moore is a Freshman All-American and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. The powerful Cardinal catcher has  compiled a .316 average with 50 runs scored, 20 doubles, 15 homers and 62 RBIs.

Working at the back end of the Cardinal bullpen, Bruno has compiled nine saves and a 2-1 record while striking out 54 batters in 33 innings of work. The left-hander is a first-team All-Pac-12 selection.

The Pac-12 featured 21 overall selections, including 11 as first-team honorees. Stanford led the way with its seven award winners, including the league-high five on the West Region First Team.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.

First Team All-Region selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 16 prior to the start of the 2023 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

The finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I Gold Glove team will be announced via Twitter by Rawlings Sporting Goods (@RawlingsSports) on Tuesday, June 20. The Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.
