SEATTLE – Eight current and former Huskies are set to compete and coach for national teams in the coming weeks between Canada Cup and the WBSC Softball World Cup Qualifiers.
Lindsay Lopez and Jillian Celis will represent Mexico and Jenn Salling will serve as an assistant coach for Canada in Surrey, British Columbia (July 10-16). Salling will then head to Italy (July 22-26) for Group C of the WBSC qualifier. Ali Aguilar, Sis Bates and Baylee Klingler along with head coach Heather Tarr will be with Team USA in Dublin, Ireland as part of Group A (July 11-15) at the qualifiers. Taran Alvelo will represent Puerto Rico in Valencia, Spain (July 18-22) in Group B of the qualifiers.
CANADA CUP (TEAM MEXICO, TEAM CANADA)
Lopez and Celis are coming off a bronze medal finish last week at the Central American and Caribbean Games. The duo kicks off their quest for the Canada Cup today at 8:30 p.m. PT with a matchup against Greece. Salling at Team Canada open their Canada Cup campaign against Australia tonight at 6 p.m. PT.
Following the conclusion of round robin, the teams will enter a double elimination tournament based on team’s records in round robin play. The championship game will take place on July 15 at 6 p.m. PT. All games of the 2023 Canada Cup will be streamed via a livestream. To subscribe click here.
SOFTBALL WORLD CUP QUALIFIER (TEAM USA, TEAM PUERTO RICO, TEAM CANADA)
Coach Tarr enters her second season as the head coach for Team USA. Last summer Tarr lead the US National Team to three of gold medals at the Canada Cup, the World Games and the Pan American Championship. Tarr, Aguilar, Bates and Klingler kick off Team USA’s run on Tuesday at 5 p.m. PT against Chinese Taipei. Team USA will compete in Group A alongside Chinese Taipei, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland and Botswana.
Alvelo and Team Puerto Rico are coming off an undefeated tournament at the Central American and Caribbean Games on the way to the gold. They will compete in Group B held in Valencia, Spain July 18-22 alongside Netherlands, China, Spain, Cuba and South Africa.
Following the Canada Cup, Salling and Team Canada will head to Buttio and Castions di Strada, Italy for Group C of the qualifier July 22-26. Canada will open up against Philippines and compete against Japan, Italy, Venezuela and New Zealand.
