Junior From Las Vegas Selected In 12th Round

BERKELEY – California pitcher Paulshawn Pasqualotto was selected in the 12th round of the 2023 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. Taken with the 357th overall pick, Pasqualotto was the only Golden Bear to hear his name called throughout the three-day draft.

Pasqualotto, a junior from Las Vegas, becomes the 23rd Cal player selected in the draft in the Mike Neu era.

After missing the 2022 season after recovering from Tommy John surgery, Pasqualotto turned in a brilliant junior campaign, earning All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors. He was also named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. He finished the 2023 season making 14 starts, going 5-1 with a 4.03 ERA. He struck out 51 in a career-best 58.0 innings pitched. The Bears went 10-4 in games he started.

A 2021 freshman All-American, Pasqualotto has gone 9-4 with a 4.26 ERA in two seasons. He has made 23 appearances including 22 starts. In 101.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 87 and held opponents to a .245 batting average.
